Hi All
Well to help keep a fire under my rear I thought I'd post my progress pics here, and keep updates of progress.
Well to start off I had already began conversion a while ago, As I really wanted it ready for a specific event, And well I rushed it, broke the cardinal prop rule and tryed to Bosh it thru quick, And well that = mess.
It wasn't Horrid but I wasn't happy and well this is where the journal begins, (I'm sure I have pics from earlier just can't find them right now ).
OK First thing I SHOULD do is tidy up the workshop but Naaaaa
Day 1:- The first thing I had to do was strip off the ribs from the bottom I had put on, as I hadn't filled the hole on the bottom of the Iona atall just stuck a bit of round plastic in to fill it quick which looked bad, that was the main thing that really pushed me to strip it right back.
Then I had to fill the big hole and the 2 small holes I had made for temp wing switches.
After that dried and was sanded I still needed a bit more filling on the bottom hole, and I also wanted to neaten/sharpen the edges on the top control box. Also filled the tip of the handle where it was going to be sanded flat with the rest of the handle. Also I had to build up the tiny shelf area around the bottom of the control box bit at the front as I hadn't extended to Iona shelf before making the control box, Note to all make sure you do this FIRST, as trying to make that fiddly little bit round the bottom after is a nightmare.
Sanded, just have to sand the end of the handle down.
Next thing after handle sanded down was to give it a primer coat to see what I've missed.
And that's where I have got to so far, I can tell now after the priming that there is still quite a bit of sanding to go to even things out and remove the filler edges that felt smooth
Day 2:- More filling sanding and swearing , but basically have the shell looking ready to go, not 100% perfect but if I carry on filling and sanding anymore I'll start loosing hope, but it's 98% in my books , Just have to add the bottom ribs, and cut the LED holes on the control panel.
I also opened up the rear hole for the thumb wheel and thinned it, and strengthned the handle tip, as when sanding it where it was taken so thin it broke off, so good ol super glue and more filler
I also drilled the holes on the wings today, but I think I'll buy some more LED's I was going to use 3mm Yellow LEDs on the wings but think I'll go for 3mm Ultrabright Yellow clear package instead and either leave them round tipped or file them flat at the end but will have to check to see that the loss of the lens tip doesn't make the LED useless, I have some posative results in the past but not always.
The electronics I've basically nailed my circuit down but still need to build a test version first
Well there it is, I'm open to comments, sujestions or questions

UPDATE:-
OK I had an event coming up and really wanted the PKE to be there so had to knuckle down a bit, So first thing was to sand the paint away from the bottom ready to fit the new ribs, I am Soooooooooo much happier with these new ribs, the old ones well made me cringe a bit, so Happy about them now
Also had to mark out the touch pad and LED positions. Then drill/file them to size.
Then I done a quick test fit

Then it was time to hit the base with another primer coat, and whilst getting covered in paint done the first layer of matt black on the top
After the top and bottom had several coats of black I really needed to start getting it to be able to go together, so I temp mounted the LED#s using good old blue tack , and soldered the LEDs in the wings to be ready to wire up later.
Then with even more blue tack and some extra plastic card inside I managed to get the PKE to a static state. I still needed to make the propper selector switch cover for the screen select but that was a minor detail. SO then came the pics
Some mood ones minus the flash.
Well that's where it is at the moment, Now have to get of my rear and do the electronics

Lee, that's coming on very nicely mate.... but you MUST clear up that workshop of yours..... it is your destiny....lol..
Steve.... the full ROM/FX helmet setup is easy... just sorting the feedback is the problem... as I found out... |
